MESIL Vinyl Silicone Fluid (Vi-PDMS) | Base Polymer for LSR & RTV-2k

Bottom Line Up Front (BLUF): The MESIL® 206 Series consists of colorless, clear, vinyl-terminated polydimethylsiloxane fluids. Designed strictly as the base polymer for addition-curing room temperature vulcanizing two-component (RTV-2k) and liquid silicone rubber (LSR). Vulcanization is achieved through the reaction of terminal vinyl groups with silicon-hydride crosslinkers, requiring a platinum catalyst.

Technical Specification Matrix

Data drives formulation. Compare the exact viscosity and vinyl content parameters across the MESIL® 206 series to match your crosslinking requirements. All grades operate under CAS No. 68083-19-2.

Targeted Industrial Applications

Engineered strictly for high-performance chemical bonding and modification.

LSR & RTV-2k Base Polymer
Mainly used as the base rubber for addition-type liquid silicone rubber. It acts simultaneously as a reinforcing agent, hardening agent, and structured control agent within the silicone rubber industry. Can be used as a blend polymer to create desired hardness.
Chemical Synthesis & Modification
Taking advantage of its high vinyl reaction activity, it is used to produce perfusion silicone rubber and to synthesize silicone-modified acrylic resin emulsions. It also serves as a major intermediate for other organic silicone materials.
Industrial Finishing Agents
Applied broadly as a waterproof agent, softening agent, and antisticking agent across the fabric, paper, and leather manufacturing industries.

Packaging & Shelf Life Constraints

Standard Packaging & Capacity
Packaged strictly in net weight 190 kg steel drums or 950 kg IBC drums. A standard 20’ GP FCL can full-load either 80 steel drums (15,200.0 kg) or 18 IBC drums (17,100.0 kg).
Storage Parameters
The fluid possesses a shelf life of 36 months when stored in the original unopened packaging at ambient temperatures. The product does not freeze, ensuring there are no extreme low-temperature restrictions on storage.

System Loop: Engineer Q&A

Q: What is the exact crosslinking mechanism for formulating LSR with the 206 series?
A: The terminal vinyl groups of the polydimethylsiloxane fluid participate in an addition-curing vulcanization reaction. This requires blending with silicon-hydride (Si-H) crosslinkers and must be catalyzed by a platinum catalyst to achieve the final elastomer network.
Q: How does the vinyl content scale with viscosity across the product grades?
A: The relationship is strictly inverse. Low-viscosity grades like MESIL® 206-20 (20 cSt) feature a high vinyl content of 2.80~3.47 wt%, providing high crosslink density. Conversely, high-viscosity grades like MESIL® 206-20000 (20,000 cSt) feature a low vinyl content of 0.09~0.13 wt%, suitable for softer, high-elongation rubber bases.
